509 Where nobody likes country music, except for everyone Monday, February 1, 2010 [1] [2]
You guys filled up our voice mail box over the weekend with your thoughts on the new Apple iPad, but we have to spread the hate around with a quick chat about last night's Grammy Awards, PETA's robotic groundhogs, and high school reunions. We've also got plenty of your sticker pictures to show off, including one that might be NSFW....big surprise, 404!

510 Where we beat up Punxsutawney Phil and smash his freaking cell phone Tuesday, February 2, 2010 [3] [4]
Unfortunately, it turns out our furry little friend might be an amazing meteorologist, but his texting skills can use some work. It took Phil over two hours to send out his inaugural text message to awaiting subscribers. Phil took even longer to tweet out his prediction. Unfortunate news aside, we've also got plenty of exciting news to discuss, including this year's Oscar nominations! Finally, today marks the premiere of CNET TV's newest show, preGAME! Hosts Jeff Bakalar and Mark Licea bring you all the latest gaming news plus in-house demos of the hottest games a week before they're released.

511 Where the more you ignore us, the closer we get Wednesday, February 3, 2010 [5] [6]
All the recent frenzy over the Apple iPad might be too much for the tech nerds of the world to handle. n other tech news, TechCrunch gives us a first look at Google's interpretation of a modern tablet device, as imagined by Glen Murphy, Google Chrome's designer.

512 Where we don't sweat the small stuff Thursday, February 4, 2010 [7] [8]
We kick off today's episode of CNET's The 404 Podcast with a fun story about the Nestle Crunch Hotline number. The company's latest viral campaign offers a series of hidden menus within the prerecorded call center that lets callers choose between English, Spanish, and Pig Latin language options. Jeff also brings us an amazing deal from Dell for the new Alienware M11x. It won our Best of CES 2010 award and, judging by its size, it's comparable to a gaming Netbook. Lots more stories in the rundown today, including a $7,000 talking sex robot, a T-shirt that all predators will enjoy, the new Sonic the Hedgehog 4 trailer, and more!

513 Where we did not put that sticker there Friday, February 5, 2010 [9] [10]
If you've ever petitioned Facebook to add a "Dislike" button to the site, you might get a kick out of a new antisocial networking site that lets your friends anonymously rag on you from the privacy of their homes. After 30 years of the same boring design, Heinz finally wised up and redesigned its ketchup packets. Last week's viral "Post your doppelganger to Facebook" meme might violate Facebook's terms of service, but we're featuring our own celebrity photos on today's episode anyway...with a twist.

514 Where Justin lost $1,000 in the big game Monday, February 8, 2010 [11] [12]
Wilson might be the only host on The 404 who watched the entire big game Sunday, so we don't spend too much time talking about the actual game and instead stick to the commercials. Ads this year included Google's first Super Bowl ad. Also, HomeAway revitalized the Griswold family from National Lampoon's "Vacation", and Motorola aired a commercial with Megan Fox selling something...we just don't remember what it is. We also have a story about Comcast changing its name to Xfinity. Finally, we run down a list of the 10 most needlessly perverted mainstream games.

515 Where we look to our hands for inspiration Tuesday, February 9, 2010 [13] [14]
The infamous Ouija Board is still just as popular as it was when Hasbro first unleashed it in 1967. In fact, it even got extra publicity with a flaming cameo in last year's horror flick Paranormal Activity, but angry Christians aren't happy about Hasbro's latest idea for a Pink Ouija Board. First there was Doppelganger Week, then Urban Dictionary Week, and now we finally have a Facebook meme that The 404 Podcast can get behind: Can this pickle get more fans than Nickleback? This next story might make you think twice before ducking into the back room at your local video store. Google's latest "Store View" is as yet unconfirmed (but not outright denied), but the service will ideally let users check out the inside of any participating retailer through Google Maps.

516 Where bleepity bleep those kittens Wednesday, February 10, 2010 [15] [16]
Today marks a special milestone on the show as we welcome the newest co-host of the show, Ms. Natali Del Conte! She'll join in the fun every Thursday (with the exception of today), offering a fresh perspective on our usual collection of stories. The 404 is also the perfect outlet for Natali to speak freely on topics like Google's newest social-publishing tool, Google Buzz. Speaking of Google, the site is adding another log to its flame war with China over a copycat site subtlety dubbed "Goojje."

517 Where we're huge in Japan Thursday, February 11, 2010 [17] [18]
It's not every day we get a chance to interview a Japanese pop star, so when we found out that Mark Licea of CNET's The Green Show grew up with host/model/singer Leah Dizon, we booked her right away. In the second half of the show, Wilson tells us a strange story about a man who claims that a booty call cell phone ruined his life. We also can't ignore the big news of the day: Google is testing out its new Internet service that promises speeds of 1Gbps.

518 Where we scarf the mic for Valentine's Day Friday, February 12, 2010 [19] [20]
Most guys are clueless when it comes to Valentine's Day, so we invite Lani Nguyen and Erin Lee of fashion blog Sugar Rock Catwalk to CNET's The 404 Podcast to school us on what to buy, where to go, and what NOT to wear this Sunday. Valentine's gifting is the easy part, but we tackle a much harder topic on the second half of the show: men's fashion dos and don'ts! You'll have to listen to the show to get the unabridged list, but common pitfalls according to the girls include over-accessorizing (or choosing the wrong accessories), gaudy T-shirt graphics and patterns, and ill-fitting garments. Yeesh, we have so much to learn...

519 Where we're too fat to fit through 7 Windows Tuesday, February 16, 2010 [21] [22]
Now that Chalentine's Day is over, we're back and ready to tackle the big news of the weekend: Windows Phone 7, the new mobile operating system just announced last Monday at a press conference at the Mobile World Congress 2010. Today's episode asks the tough questions on all our minds: would you rather sign your dog up for Twitter or get a Nickleback tattoo on your forearm?

520 Where we hire a new Twitterererer Wednesday, February 17, 2010 [23] [24]
In our struggling economy, it's nice to know that our commander-in-chief is doing his part to provide jobs to our country. Well, at least one: Barack Obama is hiring a new Social Networks Manager! Touch-screen smartphones are fun to use, but what happens when users don't want to remove their gloves in the freezing winter to send a text message or a play a game? Clever citizens discovered that a certain brand of sausage can be used as a stylus in lieu of a human finger. CJ Corporation, the business behind the "Maekseubong" sausages, reported a record breaking 39 percent revenue increase over the last year thanks to the discovery.

521 Where we stomp a double McTwist with extra tomato Thursday, February 18, 2010 [25] [26]
If you didn't see Shaun White destroying the competition at the Men's Olympic Halfpipe Finals in Vancouver last night, check out the video and prepare for a face melt, and don't forget to watch our interview with the man himself! And there's even more good news: it's Thursday, which means Natali Del Conte is on today's show! We start off the show with a quick news recap from the Olympic games, then NDC tells us about last night's interview with Justin Timberlake. The first story of the day is about PleaseRobMe.com, a new Web site that uses geolocation check-ins from Gowalla, Brightkite, or Foursquare to exploit folks broadcasting their unprotected abodes. The Barbie poll results are in. Over a half million votes were cast, and the public chose her next career: Computer Engineer!

522 Where we don't really blame Tiger Woods Friday, February 19, 2010 [27] [28]
CNET Audiophiliac Steve Guttenberg joins The 404 for an extra long and extra random episode. Lil Saint Steve always brings toys when he comes to town, and today he drops knowledge on vacuum-tube amplifiers and how a certain Panasonic Blu-ray player uses a Digital Tube Sound Simulator to enhance its audio qualities. All this home theater talk gives us the perfect outlet for our rage against NBC's tape-delay of the 2010 Olympics. In our digital age of Twitter, Facebook, smartphones, and a million other gadgets that quench our thirst for instant gratification, everyone already knows the Olympic results before the network finally airs them on television!

523 Where Canada has enough gold medals Monday, February 22, 2010 [29] [30]
The U.S. men's hockey team still has a long way to go before they reach Olympic gold in Vancouver, but last night's 5-3 victory over Canada takes them a step closer to their goal. Today's episode of The 404 Podcast needs a youthful street team, since they can apparently be bought with string cheese and fizzy drinks. In the United Kingdom, large corporations including the makers of Fanta and Cheesestrings are hiring "brand ambassadors" to evangelize their products on popular social networks like Facebook, Twitter, and Bebo. Next up we've got another story about kids, this one coming from a school in Philadelphia that spied on students using their own Web cams and remote software pre-installed on loaner laptops. If you've ever struggled with acne,a new iPhone app called AcneApp promises to "zap wrinkles and acne" away while you chat on your smartphone.

524 Where you should avoid racist polar bears Tuesday, February 23, 2010 [31] [32]
On today's episode of CNET's The 404 Podcast, the guys share the mics with longtime friend Clayton Morris of "Fox and Friends" and co-host of the Grizzly Bear Egg Cafe. Anyone who listens to our show on a regular basis knows that very little preparation goes into each episode, but we always have a great time with Clayton, and today we spend the first half of the show talking about Jeff's appearance on NPR's All Things Considered, where he spent some time speaking with host Robert Siegel about his concerns over racism in multiplayer video games. After the break, Clayton tells us about his brief but educational sojourn into the armpit of the Internet that is Chat Roulette. Clayton and the three of us attempt to describe the most common shared experience on CR: what might seem like a completely innocent Web site used to create new friendships across the world quickly falls flat on its face as you're faced with the worst the Web has to offer.

525 Where we Shatner things my dad says Wednesday, February 24, 2010 [33] [34]
Natali Del Conte replaces Justin Yu on today's show, as he's out looking for pickles. The name of today's show refers to the news that William Shatner of "Star Trek" fame will star in CBS' new sitcom "S**t My Dad Says," based on the same expletive-filled Twitter phenomenon. Jeff has a beef with the number of 3D movie theaters out there right now. Apparently, the success of "Avatar" has led a swarm of 3D films to be released, and many theaters aren't equipped to handle the 3D projections just yet. Next, we get to Sony building a universal game controller (a la the Logitech Harmony One, but for videogame consoles).

526 Where we form a flying V Thursday, February 25, 2010 [35] [36]
The first story to mention is the return of The Red Kid (not that one, Jeff), but this time to Twitter! It's about time, Conan, but you know you're a little late to the Twitter game when you get beaten by His Holiness the Dalai Lama himself. Next, Jeff tells us a truly terrifying story about things that go bump in the night....keep your mind out of the gutter while you listen, but it's about his fiancee's troubled-sleep woes. The scary part is she's not the only one in the studio with serious slumbering issues! If you're just tuning in, we should warn you that the next story should not be heard during a meal or while in a state of anger, because you might do something crazy like send your nemesis a pile of poop. Poopsenders.com lets you send your friend/enemy/frenemy a steaming pile of cow, elephant, or gorilla dung, and you can even choose the amount!
